These things were said in the statement sent to the media on Sunday (September 23) night.
The statement signed by the organization's president Suman Howladar and general secretary Ilyas Khandkar said that there has been instability in the egg and chicken market for the last 2-3 years. One of the reasons for this is poultry feed and chick production companies. All are captive to their powerful syndicate. In this regard, the big leading companies are - Kazi Farms Poultry Feed and Hatchery, People's Poultry and Hatchery, Aftab Poultry and Hatchery, Paragon Poultry Feed and Hatchery, Narish Poultry Feed and Hatchery, Nahar Poultry Feed and Hatchery, CP Bangladesh Poultry Feed and Hatchery Breeders Association of Bangladesh, Feed Industries Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association, Bangladesh Poultry Farm Protection National Council, Bangladesh Agro Feed Importers and Trading Association, Poultry Professional Bangladesh. If these syndicates cannot be broken, relief will not return to the market.
It is alleged that one person of these companies is a member of all the associations. They again hold meetings in government ministries and departments and enjoy opportunities by misrepresenting the government and presenting false information. 1 lakh 60 thousand marginal farmers have lost their capital and become destitute under the grip of this syndicate. And about 1 lakh farms are on the way to closure.
The statement also said that two to three times more profit is being given to companies producing chickens by the Department of Livestock. As imports stopped, companies created a crisis by reducing production of chicks. And sold at a higher price, understanding the opportunity. On the other hand, increasing the price of poultry feed is increasing the production cost of eggs and chickens. The egg and chicken market is also becoming unstable.
Pointing out that corporate companies are giving special opportunities to contracted farms, they said that companies are selling the same chicks and poultry feed at two different prices. If the farmers have a contract with the company, they can buy a bag of poultry feed for 2700 taka and a chick for 35-38 taka. In contrast, a bag of feed for marginal farmers is priced at Rs 3600 and a chick is priced at Rs 40-100. As a result, the contract farms are not facing losses as the cost of production of chicken is low, while the marginal farmers are forced to withdraw from the production due to the high cost of production.
In such a situation, they called on the government to break this syndicate within the next 15 days and create equal opportunities for all. If not, the statement also mentioned that there will be a big movement against marginal farmers across the country.
