Tests on mice have shown that the pill can freeze sperm for several hours, enough time to kill sperm before they reach the ovary. However, scientists say that more experiments are needed before testing on humans. And they plan to test it on rabbits after rats.

The basic concept of this invention is that the user will take the pill one hour before intercourse and the moment of private time with the partner will begin exactly one hour later. Scientists say there will be no hormonal involvement with this pill invented for men. Scientists see this as a major positive aspect of the pill.

It will have no effect on testosterone and its use will not cause any male hormone deficiency side effects. Instead, the scientists found that the process of 'sperm-swimming' is controlled by a cellular signaling protein in specific cells. And the pill being tested will block that protein.

The project, funded by the US National Institutes of Health, began with experiments on mice and was later published in the journal Nature Communications. A single dose of this drug has been shown to stop sperm motility during and before and after intercourse in mice. It has an effect on the body for up to three hours. During the next 24 hours, the pill no longer has any effect on the new sperm flow in the body.

A member of the research team, Dr. Will Cornell Medicine, a scientist in New York. Melanie Ballbach says the pill has the potential to become an effective pill. If it eventually works in the human body, men may be able to use it as needed. And can use it as a daily plan or decision to control their fertility. But it won't prevent sexually transmitted diseases, so experts warn that condoms must be used.

Professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield, Alan Passey, said effective, reversible and edible, men's need for such a birth control pill is increasing. Various experiments have been carried out over the years but none have yet come to market. He says, “The process we're talking about, which is to stop a key enzyme in the sperm that's essential for its movement, is a novel idea. The thing is, it works, and the great thing is that the body goes back to its original state quickly." "If the pill works in humans the same way it does in mice, then this is the male birth control pill we've been waiting for," he said.

Professor Alan Passey told the BBC: "The experiment was carried out on human sperm in the laboratory, and it worked the same way. As a result, I think it now makes it possible to conduct trials in humans." Meanwhile, another group of researchers is trying to stop sperm swimming in a slightly different way by blocking a protein on the sperm.

There is no other birth control method in the market other than condoms for men. The contraceptive pill for women has been used in the UK for over 50 years. But still birth control pills for men have not been made why? Males who are able to reproduce are constantly producing sperm, if this process is interrupted in the body it can have a major effect on the hormones causing more side effects. This is a major obstacle in the development of male birth control pills.

Four years ago in 2019, a pill was tested in the UK on five men whose sex drive had decreased after taking the pill. However, in this case, the use of gel came into the market as an alternative, which was not very popular.
