JUMBANGLA DESK: Bangladesh's garment industry has further cemented its global leadership position in sustainability, with 229 certified factories proud to be eco-friendly.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) director Mohiuddin Rubel confirmed three more RMG factories in the country, which have been certified as 'green factories'.

The factories are Anant Huajing Limited of Narayanganj, Sepal Garments Limited of Gazipur and Unitex Spinning Limited of Sitakunda, Chittagong (second unit).

He said, through this addition, the number of eco-friendly factories in the garment and textile sector of Bangladesh has increased to 229.


Of these, 91 are holders of the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) prestigious 'Lead Platinum' certification, with 124 factories receiving 'Gold' status, 10 'Silver' and 4 factories 'Certified'.

BGMEA also said that 9 of the world's top 10 environmentally friendly factories are located in Bangladesh.
