A food allergy occurs when someone's immune system reacts negatively to a particular food. The prevalence of food allergy in children is approximately 4% worldwide. Some of the most common triggers include eggs, milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, and tree nuts. However, not everyone has the same symptoms. It may vary from person to person. Baby food allergies

Rash

When someone with a food allergy is exposed to a specific protein in the food, also called an allergen, their body mistakenly identifies it as a threat, triggering the immune system to produce IgE antibodies to fight the allergen.

These IgE antibodies travel throughout the bloodstream and bind to cells of the immune system. If the person is exposed to the same allergen again, those antibodies attack it as an enemy, causing an allergic reaction. One of the most common symptoms in children is a skin rash, which is red, swollen, and itchy.

Swelling of the mouth, lips and tongue

Another common symptom is swelling of the mouth, lips and tongue, also called angioedema. According to Statpearls Publishing, angioedema can become life-threatening if it involves the larynx or voice box, as it can cause difficulty breathing.

stomach ache

Any type of food allergy or food intolerance in children (as well as adults) can cause stomach problems. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, cramping and diarrhea. If your child develops such symptoms after eating a certain food, it is best to avoid it completely or serve it in small amounts. But talk to the doctor before making any changes to the child's diet.

Itchy or watery eyes

Itchy, watery eyes are a common symptom of many types of allergies, including food allergies. They are caused by the release of histamine, a chemical produced by the immune system during an allergic reaction. It causes inflammation and irritation in the eyes. As a result such problems arise.

closed nose

A stuffy nose and itching can also signal a food allergy. This is because food allergies can cause similar reactions in the nose as in the eyes. Be careful if children runny noses after eating. It may be a sign of allergy.

Other respiratory problems

Food allergies can also cause coughing and shortness of breath. Histamine released during an allergic reaction can cause inflammation of the airways, causing difficulty breathing, coughing. Such problems may occur more in children.

Beware of anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can affect many parts of the body, including breathing and circulation. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, anaphylaxis can be a life-threatening allergic reaction that can disrupt breathing, dramatically lower blood pressure and affect heart rate.
