Jumbangla Desk: Bangladesh Army Chief General Walker-uz-Zaman said that no matter what happens, elections can be held within the next 18 months after completing important reforms. That is why the interim government will be given all possible assistance. He said this in an interview given to the British news agency Reuters last Monday.

Army

The army chief told Reuters in an interview that Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus led government has full support. Bangladesh army will not interfere in politics. Within the next year and a half, the transition of democracy should take place in the country.

The army chief said, 'We meet with the chief adviser of the interim government every week. We have a good relationship. I am sure, if we work together, there is no reason to fail.'

Waqar-uz-Zaman said, as part of reforms after the fall of the government, allegations against army personnel are also being investigated and some have already been brought under punishment. If any responsible member is found guilty, of course I will take action.

The army chief said the military as a whole should never be used for political purposes. A soldier should not do politics.

Signs You'll Never Get Rich

Waqar-uz-Zaman said the army can be kept free from political influence only when there is a balance of power between the president and the prime minister. In such a system, the armed forces would be placed directly under the President.
