Captain Heather Knight
England's Cricket Disciplinary Commission (CDC) yesterday severely punished Knight due to a 12-year-old offence. Suspended fine is 1000 pounds, which is 1 lakh 60 thousand taka in Bangladeshi currency. In 2012, Kent wore a costume in blackface, which alludes to racism and discrimination. The England captain was punished for breaching Article 3.3 of the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) directive, which states, 'No cricketer or group of cricketers shall do anything which is not in the interests of cricket or which brings cricket into disrepute.'
Knight attended a costume party at Kent Cricket Club in 2012. 'Sports Stars' were the party. There the England women captain's photo was taken by a third party. Later it went viral on social media. The England captain also admitted that since he (Knight) didn't post it, he didn't have a chance to delete it. In a notice sent by the ECB expressing regret, Knight said, 'I am truly sorry for the mistake I made in 2012. It was very wrong. I regretted it for a long time. Honestly, I had no idea what the result of this work could be. There was no ulterior motive.'
Knight will be careful so that such incidents do not happen in future. The England captain said, 'I cannot change the past. But very passionate about the game. I am committed to using social media to spread the game (cricket) as much as possible, so that everyone gets equal opportunities.
