International Desk: The US Department of Commerce has proposed to ban Chinese software and hardware in vehicles due to security concerns. Chinese cars are on the verge of being banned in the US after the Biden administration proposed on Monday. Because, if it goes into effect, almost all Chinese cars will be banned from the US market.

In this regard, according to a report by Reuters, the Biden administration has expressed serious concerns about Chinese companies' collection of data on vehicles as well as possible foreign manipulation of vehicles connected to the Internet and navigation systems. The White House also ordered an investigation into a potential threat in February.

If passed, the newly adopted proposal would force U.S. and other major automakers to remove key Chinese software and hardware from U.S. vehicles in the coming years. That would prevent testing of self-driving cars by Chinese automakers on U.S. roads. Which may later apply to vehicle software and hardware produced by Russia and other adversaries of the United States.

US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said at a briefing, 'When a foreign adversary develops the software to build such a vehicle, it means it can be used for surveillance, controlled remotely and threatens the privacy and safety of Americans on the road.'

Ongoing US restrictions on Chinese vehicles, software and parts could increase tensions between the two countries. That's because earlier this month, the Biden administration imposed steep tariffs on Chinese imports, including a 100 percent tariff on electric vehicles, as well as new tariffs on EV batteries and key minerals.
