A consensus was reached on these issues in the meeting of BGMEA leaders and labor union leaders at the secretariat on Tuesday (September 24). Four government advisors were present in the same meeting.

Advisors were among the advisors of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Industry Ministry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Advisor Farida Akhtar and Labor Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.

After the meeting, Labor Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan informed the reporters about the decisions made in the meeting.

He said that the existing attendance bonus of all garment factory workers is increasing by 225 rupees. Also, all the factories will implement the minimum wage announced by the government by next October. Besides, the factory will pay all the outstanding wages of the workers to the authorities by October 10.

Earlier, the workers made 18-point demands to the government. The demands include-

Reorganize the wage board to re-fix minimum wages for workers; Factories which have not yet implemented the minimum wage announced by the government in 2023, should be implemented quickly; Labor laws must be amended; If a worker is dismissed or fired after completing five years of service, a lump sum shall be paid, subject to amendment of Section 27 of the Labor Act, which is inconsistent therewith; All outstanding wages shall be paid promptly; Attendance bonus (Tk 225), tiffin bill (Tk 50), night bill (Tk 100) should be increased at the same rate in all factories; Provident fund system should be introduced in all factories; A minimum of 10 percent of annual increments shall be fixed against salary;

A system of rationing should be introduced for workers; Biometric blacklisting controlled by BGMEA cannot be done, biometric list should be kept under government control; All harassment and political cases must be withdrawn; Measures should be taken to stop the dominance of fake business, if necessary, laws should be made in this regard; Non-discriminatory recruitment in factories; Ensure compensation and medical care for martyred and injured workers in the July Revolution; Appropriate measures should be taken for the welfare of the victims of the Rana Plaza and Tazreen fashion accidents after the investigation; According to labor laws, day-care centers must be established in all factories; Unfair layoffs must stop; The period of maternity leave for women workers should be fixed at 120 days.
