Arrested 3 with crores of rupees and foreign currency in a joint operation in Uttara

Jumbangla Desk : In a joint operation of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara West Police Station and the army, three persons including Tk 1 crore 16 lakh 45 thousand 500 cash, a large amount of foreign currency and 2 private cars were arrested from Uttara of the capital. Those arrested are Shahzada Khan Sajjad, Md. Taujidul Islam and Md. Saiful Islam

Secret information was that a house on Road No. 23, Sector No. 7, Uttara, had a large cache of money and weapons. Based on that information, a joint team operation of the army and Uttara Paschim police station was conducted on Sunday (September 22). In the operation, three people were arrested with a large amount of money, foreign currency and a car.

1 crore 16 lakh 45 thousand 500 taka in cash and foreign currency of different countries were recovered from the arrested persons in the operation. Among them were 65 one hundred dollar notes, 41 1000 Thai baht notes, 20 five hundred dirham notes and currencies of different countries. Apart from this, three bulletproof jackets were recovered, which had 'Police' written in English on the front and back. Two private cars (Land Cruiser and Harrier) were also seized in the raid.

It is to be noted that the bulletproof jackets were reportedly used in the August 5 anti-discrimination student movement. The accused claimed that the recovered money, currency and car belonged to former MP Mohammad Habib Hasan and his family members.

Legal action is underway against those arrested.
