Bollywood star couple Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan got married secretly in 1973 after dating for a few years. Jaya Bhaduri was a bigger star than Amitabh Bachchan then, though Big B cemented his position in the industry after the success of 'Zanjeer'.

After the couple's marriage, critics tried hard to malign Amitabh Bachchan in various ways. Then Jaya Bhaduri's father himself reacted to the marriage through a news release.

Jaya Bachchan's father Tarun Kumar Bhaduri was a journalist and writer. He said, Jaya suddenly decided to marry Amitabh Bachchan.

According to a News18 report, Jaya's father Tarun Kumar Bhaduri wrote a story in the 'Illustrated Weekly of India' in 1989, saying there are some naysayers who say Amitabh married Jaya because she was a big star. Which is totally wrong. He waited for the success of 'Zanjeer'. But even if it wasn't, Jaya would have married him, I'm sure.

Tarun Kumar also said about Jaya Bachchan, My daughter is a person of very strong nature. He could make his own decision. During the wedding, Amitabh calls Jaya's mother. He went to Mumbai and requested to attend their wedding.

Jaya Bachchan's father also wrote, 'We reached Mumbai the next day on June 3, 1975 to prepare for the secret wedding. How the whole matter was kept secret need not be told now. The wedding took place at a family friend's house in Malabar Hill.'

Jaya Bachchan's mother wanted her daughter to get married in Bengali style. But at that time it was difficult to find a Bengali priest in such a quick time in Mumbai.

Jaya's father writes, Bengali weddings are long, but very interesting. A beleaguered Bengali priest was initially reluctant to undertake the task of marrying Jaya, a Bengali Brahmin, to a non-Brahmin (Amitabh). After many attempts the matter was resolved. Apparently the priest didn't want them to get married. He registered his protest.

Jaya Bachchan's father also wrote in the article, Amitabh Bachchan accepted all norms without hurting anyone. The wedding ceremony continued till the next morning.

Jaya's father denied the rumors that he was against Amitabh's marriage with Jaya.
