Jumbangla Desk: The United States has announced a new aid of about 199 million dollars for the Rohingya refugees who fled from Myanmar and took refuge in Bangladesh. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is about 2378 crore 80 lakh 62 thousand taka. The announcement was made by US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Jaya at an event at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday (September 24). Later, the country's Department of State published a press release in this regard.

Azra Zeya announced nearly $199 million in new aid for Rohingya refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh, the release said. Of this, $70 million is being provided by the US government's Department of Population, Refugees and Migration. The remaining $129 million will be provided by USAID. Of USAID's $129 million, $78 million will come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The U.S. aid will help save the lives of Rohingya fleeing Myanmar to escape violence and persecution. Apart from this, this aid will also act as a buffer in the disaster preparedness of the refugees. At the same time, it will provide an opportunity to increase education and skills. This donation will motivate the refugees to return home quickly.

Incidentally, in 2017, Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh. Since then, the United States has provided $2.5 billion in financial aid to Rohingya refugees and locals. Out of this 2.1 billion came to Bangladesh.
