International Desk: Many people who are crazy about wandering have various problems. Enjoy the taste of new places, but they can't sleep in new surroundings and beds. Australian hotels are working specifically to solve this problem, known as the first-night effect.

The concept of 'sleep tourism' is gaining popularity in the region. Basically, sleep tourism offers guests a specialized experience in improving the quality of sleep. MACQ and Langham Hotels in Tasmania offer various packages focusing on sleep for guests.

Features include lavender-scented rooms, weighted blankets, herbal teas and soothing music. One of MACQ's programs is Pay By Slip. According to this program, guests will get a discount if they stay longer than a certain time. Those who book a hotel for two nights will get a discount of $68 for an additional 1 hour of sleep after 6 hours.

Even 9 hours of sleep can get one night discount. Similarly, the Langham's program includes spa treatments, consultations with sleep experts and traditional Chinese ear pressure point massages to relieve stress. Currently, the global market value of the sleep tourism industry is 7 billion dollars.

Many experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of such programs. Others praise the system's relaxing experience and say hotel guests can practice these exercises at home to get better sleep. News and photos Nikkei Asia
