Jumbangla Desk: Although the flood situation in Comilla has improved overall, the flood water in the three upazilas of Laksam, Manoharganj and Nangalkot in the southern region of Comilla is not receding. In these three upazilas, lakhs of people are still trapped in water.

Out of the 17 upazilas of Comilla, 14 were affected by the severe floods. In between, the water has started receding from the flood-affected areas, but the water in Bans of Laksam Manoharganj and Nangalkot is receding at a lower rate than other upazilas. Millions of people are still under water in these areas. Banvasi people continue to suffer. Many homes still have water.

Most of the roads in Manoharganj are submerged. As a result, long-term flooding has occurred in these three upazilas in the southern part of the district.

According to local sources, more than 200,000 people were trapped in water in 11 unions of Nangalkot and Manoharganj upazilas due to torrential downpour and continuous rain in Laksam. 45 thousand people.

Three upazilas have been visited in Sarzamin, the houses and roads of the people of Laksam municipality and the upazilas of Manoharganj and Nangalkot have started to go down, but there is still water in the roads and houses in the villages of the three remote areas of the upazila. Rickshaw driver Aku Mia (40) of Uttar Howla village of Manoharganj upazila of Comilla has been in the shelter for 37 consecutive days.

Went to his house on Wednesday morning and saw water still on the yard. Water did not go down from the house. What Pani saw two days ago, he saw the same today. The water is not decreasing.

Not only Aku Mia, thousands of families in flood-hit Laksam Manoharganj and Nangalkot upazilas of Comilla are now worried about only one thing, when the flood water will subside. When will they return home?

According to the office of the district relief and rehabilitation officer, about 2 lakh people are still trapped in water in 14 upazilas affected by floods in the district. Which was more than 6 lakh 22 thousand last week. Many people are still unable to return home from the shelters due to the flood water not receding.

Abul Mia, a senior resident of Mohammadpur village of Laksam upazila, said that he had never seen so much water in his life. I have not heard from my father. For 36 to 37 days, many houses in Abul Miar area have been submerged under water. Looking around you can see the suffering of people. However, the way the water is decreasing, this old man thinks that this suffering will not end easily.

Overall, the flood situation in Comilla is improving. Due to encroachment and filling of many places, the path of water has narrowed. Due to the illegal filling of rivers and canals at various places, there is a problem in getting water down. The water in the southern part of the district flows through the Dakatia River to Nangalkot, Laksam, Manoharganj and joins the Meghna River in Chandpur district. Due to the slowness, it takes time for the water to go down in these areas.

Executive Engineer of Comilla Water Development Board (PUBO) Khan Mohammad Waliuzzaman told BASS, overall the flood situation in Comilla is improving. Due to encroachment and filling of many places, the path of water has narrowed. Due to free encroachment and filling of rivers and canals, there is problem of water discharge. Water in the southern part of the district through Dakatiya river Nangalkot, Laksam, Manoharganj is slow due to the slowness of water in these areas, it is taking time.

Professor Saidur Rahman, a resident of Nagher Petua area of Manoharganj upazila, said that there is still flood water in the yard of every house in their village. Due to lack of rainfall in the last few days, the water tends to decrease in the beginning. But the last two days the water has not reduced a bit. In this situation, the movement has to be subjected to extreme suffering.

Talked with Anwar Hossain, a resident of Mudafarganj village of Laksam upazila. He said, the flood water is still knee-deep in his house. Even inside the residence, water is close to the knees. The water has not decreased in the last two days.

In this regard, Manoharganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ujala Rani Chakma said that due to encroachment of rivers and canals and fishing through dams, there is some problem in water coming down, it is true. But we continue to operate mobile courts on every canal and river. So far, efforts have been made to keep the impact of water normal by removing more than half a hundred dams. There has been no rain for a few days, if the situation is like this, we hope that the flood situation will be brought under control soon.-Bass
