It is known that on September 18, Tofazzal Hossain was beaten up in front of SM Hall of Dhaka University on suspicion of being a thief. After taking him to Dhaka Medical, the doctor declared him dead. There was a lot of criticism on social media. It was later revealed that Tofazzal was a mental patient.

Mohammad Amanullah, the supervisor of the university's estate office, filed a case at the Shahbag police station the next day. Police arrested 6 students after the case. They confessed their guilt in the court and gave a statement. Currently in jail. These are Jalal Mia, Suman Mia, Md. Mottakin Sakin, Al Hossain Sajjad, Ahsan Ullah and Wajibul Alam.
