Jumbangla Desk: The groom ran away leaving his new wife after the news of the Magistrate coming to Kotchandpur in Jhenaidah. The incident took place in Kulyagacha village of the upazila around 2:30 pm on Wednesday (September 25).

Locals said that Akash Ali, son of Shahadat Hossain of neighboring Bara Ghighati village, got married to a class eight girl (14). Even though they got married three days ago, the groom came to pick up his wife officially on Wednesday.

Executive Magistrate Jannatul Mawa raided the bride's house for child marriage. The invited guests along with the groom ran away leaving the new wife on this news.

Kotchandpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jannatul Mawa said that the bride's father was fined 5,000 taka and the boy's uncle Afsar Ali was fined 5,000 taka for child marriage. A bond has been taken to the effect that the bride will not go to her father-in-law's house until she reaches the age of 18.
