Dr. Wang Yi called Yunus an 'old friend of the Chinese people'

Jumbangla Desk: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that his country wants to invest in solar panels in Bangladesh and is keen to advance strategic bilateral relations by strengthening commercial and economic relations.
On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session at the United Nations headquarters on Wednesday, September 25, New York local time, Bangladesh's chief advisor Professor Dr. He said this during his meeting with Muhammad Yunus.
Citing the meeting, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the Chinese Foreign Minister said that responding to the call of Professor Yunus, Chinese solar panel manufacturers are interested in setting up factories in Bangladesh. The Chinese government is taking the issue very seriously.
Last month, when the Chinese ambassador came to Dhaka to pay a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Yunus, he urged Chinese solar panel manufacturers to invest in Bangladesh.
Shafiqul Alam said, if Chinese investment in solar panels comes to Bangladesh, it will be a milestone in our foreign investment.
During the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister referred to Professor Yunus as an 'old friend of the Chinese people' and congratulated him on taking over the leadership of the interim government.
Dr. Mentioning that Bangladesh will remain united under the leadership of Yunus, the Chinese ambassador said, 'We have full confidence that you will fulfill the expectations of the people of the country.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing will encourage cooperation and partnership between businessmen of the two countries. He said that Chinese Red Cross sent a team of doctors to Dhaka to treat seriously injured students during the July-August uprising.
Ambassador said, China will welcome more students from Bangladesh. Professor Yunus thanked China for this sincerity. He praised China's relentless efforts to lift millions of people out of poverty.
Dr. Yunus said Chinese solar companies could invest heavily in Bangladesh, which would benefit from preferential market access for exports to many rich countries.
He also said that apart from solar companies, other Chinese manufacturers may shift their factories to Bangladesh.
The chief adviser stressed on closer ties with China and called for the opening of a 'new chapter' in relations between the two countries. He also called for increased technical cooperation between the business establishments of the two countries.
The chief adviser said, 'We want to cooperate with Chinese companies. We have many opportunities to work together.'
