It is known that Madhupur region is known as the capital of pineapple. Pineapple cultivation was first started in Bangladesh in 1942. The small-scale ethnic Garo community of Idilpur village in Madhupur was the first to cultivate pineapples. He brought 750 seedlings from Meghalaya and started cultivation. By enriching that cultivation, pineapples are now grown in different regions of the country. This delicious pineapple is mixed with hundreds of years of tradition and history. Madhupur's Jalchhatra Bazaar is a famous pineapple market. Millions of rupees are sold here every day. Wholesale and retail traders from different parts of the country buy pineapples.

Chanowar Hossain, a farmer of Madhupur who won the national award, said that the history and tradition of Madhupur is our pineapple. We are proud, happy and excited to be recognized as a GI product. Due to the welfare of this pineapple, Madhupur will remain a bright star on the world map. Although this approval should have been obtained earlier.

Madhupur Upazila Agriculture Officer Shakura Namni said that pineapple has been cultivated on 7,600 hectares of land in the district this year. Out of this 6 thousand 630 hectares of land is being cultivated in Madhupur upazila. Last year, pineapple cultivation was done on 7 thousand 661 hectares of land in the district. 2 lakh 82 thousand tons of pineapples have been produced.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque said that Tangail district is rich in history and tradition. After Tangail's woven sarees and chamchams, this time Madhupur's pineapples got GI recognition. We are happy with this, thanking the authorities concerned. Obtaining GI will expand its global branding and commercial cultivation. I will take great initiative to get the benefits of GI. Several other Tangail products have applied for GI recognition.
