International Desk: There has been a clash between Shias and Sunnis in Pakistan. At least 20 people were killed. More people were injured in clashes between Shia and Sunni communities in Kurram, northwest Pakistan.

The dispute started five days ago. The trouble stems from a dispute over a piece of land in Kurram district near the Afghanistan border. Then at some point the dispute took a big shape.

Authorities said at least 75 people were injured in the clashes. A senior administrative officer of Kurram said many houses were damaged. The government and other nations have made many efforts to stop this conflict. But it didn't work.

Barrister Saif Ali, spokesperson for the regional government, said the administration is taking the help of senior tribal leaders to defuse tensions. He claimed that both sides have agreed to a ceasefire.

Kurram has seen several clashes between Shias and Sunnis in recent years. There was a dispute over land between them last July as well. Even then, several people died in the conflict.

Pakistan is a Sunni-dominated country. Only 15 percent of the total population here are Shia Muslims. They complain that they are sometimes subjected to violence and discord.
