However, the Hindutva organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) newspaper Organiser, identified the families as 'Muslim families of Bangladeshi origin'.

The number of 450 evicted families is 2000. Government officials mentioned that 55-60 hectares of forest area has been cleared due to eviction.

Tejas Mariswamy, divisional forest officer of Goalpara, said that encroachers were removed from the area of ​​55-60 hectares by raiding 118 hectares of Bandarmatha Reserve Forest in Lakhipur range of Goalpara district.


Tejas Mariswamy said, the Guwahati High Court has ordered the encroachment of all reserved forest areas in Goalpara. Evacuation operations are being carried out according to that order. Goalpara has the highest number of human-elephant conflicts in the entire country. He said, after cleaning the area, afforestation initiatives will be taken. The area will be made habitable for elephants.

Local people said the Islamists occupied the reserved forest area between 2001 and 2016 during the Congress government.
