Jumbangla Desk: Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Md. Moinul Islam said that if anyone takes the law in the name of mob justice, strict action will be taken against them.

The IGP said this to reporters after exchanging views with senior police officers at the conference room of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in Dampara, Chittagong city on Saturday afternoon.

Director General of RAB AKM Shahidur Rahman, Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Hasib Aziz and DIG of Chittagong Range. Ahsan Habib Palash was present at this time.

The IGP said that the members of banned militant organizations who are on bail will be under surveillance. Strict action will be taken if they indulge in militancy again.

Regarding the ongoing joint operation, the IGP said that 238 firearms have been recovered so far. 75 percent of the weapons looted by the police have been recovered. He said, wherever the arms users are, they will be arrested and brought under the law.

He said that the overall security of the upcoming Durga Puja will be ensured. All should be alert so that the destroyers of communal harmony do not cause any untoward incident. The police will always try to prevent all misdeeds. He expressed optimism that Durga Puja will be celebrated through the festival like other years.


The police chief said, 'We want to restore people's confidence through police activities. We really want to be friends of the people.'

In response to a question from the journalists, the IGP said, 'He will not be arrested if he is the accused in the case. An arrest will be made only if the investigation finds involvement. No innocent will be arrested.'

Earlier, the IGP addressed a special welfare meeting with senior officers and policemen of all police units of Chittagong range organized jointly by CMP and Chittagong range at Chittagong District Police Lines in the afternoon.
