Jumbangla Desk: On the occasion of Autumn Durga Puja, 99 tonnes of hilsa were exported to India through Benapole land port from Thursday to Saturday afternoon. On the first day last Thursday, 54 tons (460 kg) of hilsa were exported in 20 trucks and 45 tons (200 kg) in 15 trucks till 4 pm today.
The export price of hilsa per kg is 10 US dollars, which is 1 thousand 180 Bangladeshi taka. Accordingly, the export of 660 kg of hilsa earned 9 lakh 96 thousand 600 US dollars in two days.
At present, one kilogram of hilsa is being sold wholesale for Tk 1,650 to Tk 1,700 in Benapole market. Accordingly, the same size of hilsa has been exported to India with a decrease of Tk 500. When asked to know the reason for this, Aswadul Alam, inspector of fisheries inspection and quality control center of Benapole land port, said that NBR officials can answer this question. What I know is that the hilsa export circular is a few years old. The export price was fixed at $10 per kg in accordance with the then market price. Exports are still being carried out according to that specification. However, he thinks that the price can be adjusted according to the domestic market price of hilsa.
Rashedul Sajib Nazir, deputy director of the port, said that a total of 2,420 tons of hilsa have been approved to be exported through various ports in the country. The Ministry of Commerce has instructed the exporters to complete the export by October 12.
