International Desk: At least six people were killed when a chartered helicopter crashed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Eight others were injured. The casualties occurred when an Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the region's North Waziristan district on Saturday (September 28).

The helicopter was owned by an oil company called Mari Petroleum Limited. A company spokesperson said the helicopter crashed near an oil field due to technical issues. He claimed that this accident has nothing to do with the security situation.

Referring to the details of the incident, the spokesperson said, the helicopter was carrying out personal transport in Shewa Waziristan block.

He said that the Pakistan Army and others are carrying out rescue operations. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

According to Geo News, the three foreign pilots in the helicopter are Russian citizens. The injured have been admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Thal.

Sources said the helicopter experienced technical problems shortly after take-off and the fatal accident occurred when its tail rotor hit the ground during an emergency landing.

An investigation has been started in this incident.

Helicopter crashes are not new in Pakistan. In September last year, two Pakistani Navy officers and a soldier were killed when a helicopter crashed in Gwadar, Balochistan.

A Navy spokesman said the accident occurred due to a technical glitch during training.
