A Chinese national has been jailed for three weeks for offering a $10 bribe to a parking warden in Singapore. The 46-year-old Chinese national is Guo Chuanqui. He was sentenced to three weeks in jail on October 4.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Li Da Zhuan said Guo was working as a driver on April 4, 2023. He then illegally parked his company car on the road near a construction site. At that time, a parking warden named Vickneswaran Kumaran, working at Certis Cisco Protection Services, spotted the car and issued a fine notice for breaking the law.
A short while later, Guo returned to find Kumaran putting a $70 fine notice on his car. Guo then offered to reduce the fine. Vikneswaran informed the duty executive about the incident after realizing that Guo would not take the fine ticket.
DPP Lee said at that time the accused Guyo took out a $10 note from his wallet and offered Vikness tea, which she declined and informed the police. Guyo was later found guilty in court late last year.
Those convicted of corruption in Singapore can face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
