The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the names of the two Nobel winners on Monday.

Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun are getting 1 crore 10 lakh krona (12 crore 74 lakh rupees) as prize. The two American doctors will share the prize money among themselves.

MicroRNAs are a type of small ribonucleic acid (RNA). It plays an important role in regulating gene expression in the body. Through this, it will be easier to work with the function of genes in the body of multicellular organisms. And by doing that, the activities of various organs inside the body can be known in detail.

This year's Nobel Prize season began with the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Like every year, this award will be given in total six categories.


The Nobel laureate will then be announced on Tuesday in Physics, Wednesday in Chemistry, Thursday in Literature, Friday in Peace and Monday in Economics. Prizes will be handed over to the winners on December 10.
