The officer was dismissed for giving the passport to that Kafi

An officer named Jahangir Alam has been dismissed for allegedly helping the police officer (ASP) Abdullahil Kafi get a passport during the burning of bodies in Savar area during the student movement.

An officer named Jahangir Alam has been dismissed for allegedly helping the police officer (ASP) Abdullahil Kafi get a passport during the burning of bodies in Savar area during the student movement.

He was temporarily suspended on Sunday as allegations of neglect of duty were proven in the internal investigation. In this incident, a director of the department has been made the main investigation committee by the Directorate of Immigration and Passport.

Meanwhile, in a press conference organized at the head office of the Directorate at Agargaon in the capital on Monday, it was said that all the information published in different media regarding the Deputy Director of Agargaon Divisional Passport Office Ismail Hossain in the incident of finding Kafir's passport is misleading. In fact, no proof of Ismail Hossain's involvement with the incident was found.

It was also said in the press conference that the police officer in question resorted to fraud to get the passport. He filed the papers identifying himself as a private employee. But DAD Jahangir Alam accepted his application without proper scrutiny. Apart from that, his passport booklet is printed within 24 hours as he applied for super express fee. At one point Kafi took delivery of the passport from Agargaon Divisional Passport Office.

Additional Director General of the Directorate Abu Asad said that Kafi's passport has already been canceled as the passport was obtained through false information and fraud. Besides, an investigation committee headed by director Mazharul Islam has been formed to investigate the incident. If anyone else is found involved in the investigation, action will be taken against him as well.

In response to a question from the journalists, Abu Asad said that no involvement of Ismail Hossain, the deputy director of the departmental passport office, was found in this incident. Rather, he informed the higher level soon after learning about the incident. As a result, it is possible to take expedited action regarding the cancellation of Kafi's passport. But based on the source of this incident, some media are publishing objective news involving the officials of the department including Ismail, which is not expected by the responsible media.

Apart from Abu Asad, Additional Director General (Passport) Selina Banu, Chief System Analyst Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan and senior officials of the Directorate were present in the press conference.

Incidentally, the former ASP of Dhaka district Abdullahil Kafi chose the path of extreme brutality in suppressing the movement of the students. Basically, on his orders, the casualties during the agitation were piled up in police pickup vans. At one point Kafi himself set fire to the van. Several bodies were mutilated. When a video of this incident spread on social media, there was a storm of condemnation across the country.

Kafi was identified on the basis of a video released after the fall of the government on August 5. Sensing danger, Kafi tries to escape from the country while in hiding. Kafi was arrested at the airport at one point. Later he was fired from the job. He is currently in jail.
