Jumbangla Desk: Bangladesh's top mobile operator Grameenphone has been accused of violating BTRC guidelines with its new late night internet package. Recently they launched a package of 30 GB internet usage from 12:00 PM to 8:00 AM at Tk 128, which is based on the approval of BTRC but is in conflict with the court directive.

Grameenphone started promoting the package after getting approval from BTRC on Sunday. However, after reviewing the matter, BTRC realized that as per the court ruling, provision of late night internet package is prohibited. As a result, Grameenphone was ordered to stop this package on Monday, which they did immediately.

A spokesperson of Grameenphone told Techshahr.com in this regard, “Grameenphone conducts business activities with transparency and responsibility in compliance with all the laws of the country and all the instructions given by BTRC. The offer was launched only with the approval of BTRC, which was later discontinued as per the instructions of BTRC.”

Despite the approval of such late night package, Grameenphone's business decisions have been questioned for promoting the package in defiance of the court order. After this incident, BTRC is said to be planning to strictly review the matter and take action.

It may be noted that according to the court's instructions, the operators have been ordered to refrain from providing late night internet packages. However, Grameenphone's move has caused concern among BTRC and consumers.
