Common people are under pressure. Although there is not much shortage of supply, prices of most commodities are on the rise. In the markets of the capital, the price of one kg of ripe tomatoes has increased to Tk 280. Among other vegetables, most of the kg has now touched Tk 100.

 

On Thursday (October 10), several markets including Kawran Bazar, Rampura, Malibagh and Moghbazar were visited in the capital. One kg of ripe tomatoes were selling for Tk 260 to Tk 280 depending on the quality and market. Beans are being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 250 per kg. 200 taka per kg of chopped onions and carrots. The sellers are asking 160-190 taka depending on the eggplant variety.

Retailers are selling 1 kg of Barab for Tk 150 to Tk 170. 160 to 180 taka per kg of carrot. 120 to 130 Tk per kg of Uchhar. But bitter gourd is being sold at a slightly lower price. Buyers have to pay 80 to 100 taka to buy one kg of bitter gourd. Patol, shrimp, kachurlati, kankrol have touched Tk 100 per kg. Vendors are selling one kg of Patol for 80 to 100 Tk. Shrimp is being sold at the same price. 100 to 120 Tk. Kankrol is being sold for 100 to 120 taka. Eggplant is being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 110. A small cauliflower is being sold for 70 to 80 taka. Cabbage is being sold at the same price. Kachurmukhi is being sold at 80 to 90 taka per kg. A kg of sweet pumpkin is being sold at 70 to 80 taka. Chichinga is being sold at 70 to 80 taka per kg.

Raw papaya and raw plantain are now available at the lowest prices in the market. A kg of papaya is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50. Glassware Hali 40 to 50 taka. Raw chilli is sold at 260 to 300 taka. Buyers have to pay 80 to 100 taka to buy good quality cucumber.

Domestic Onion Tk 105-115, Imported Onion Tk 95-105, Domestic Garlic Tk 210-220, Imported Garlic Tk 200-220, Domestic Ginger Tk 450-500, Imported Ginger Tk 280-300, Dry Domestic Red chillies are being sold at Tk 350, imported dry chillies at Tk 500 per kg.

Even though there is no shortage of fish in the market, medium roe fish is being sold at Tk 400 to Tk 450 per kg with an increase of 12 to 14 percent. The prices of all kinds of vegetables are high in the market now.


Retail market vendors say that vegetable prices have suddenly increased due to continuous rains. But if the rains subside, the supply of vegetables will increase in the market, then the price will come back within reach. Many people say that due to floods in North Bengal, there has been additional pressure on the vegetable market.

A seller said that the price of green chillies has come down per kg. Two days ago its price was 360 taka. But other vegetables are expensive. Such a situation has occurred due to rains and floods in North Bengal. Most of the vegetables come from there.

Another seller said that the price of all vegetables is high. So the customer does not take more vegetables. Many consumers are now taking half a kg (500 g) of vegetables more.

At this time, a customer said that 500 taka is running out if he buys two or three vegetables. Then how to do other markets. These issues need to be directly supervised by the government. In case of floods and rains, preparations should be made in advance so that vegetables or daily necessities do not go beyond the reach of buyers.

Expressing surprise at such prices of vegetables, a buyer said, there is no condition to touch any vegetable in the market now. The prices of all kinds of vegetables are on fire. If you bring 500 taka in your pocket, you don't do any market. The price of vegetables cannot be normal. The concerned should take quick steps to reduce the price of goods in the market.

A vegetable seller in Karwan Bazaar said that the supply of vegetables in the market is a little low for a few days due to rain. Due to this, the prices of all types of vegetables have increased. Vegetable prices do not seem to be coming down anytime soon. Because the rain has caused more damage to vegetable fields.

Another trader in the market, Milon, said that the price of vegetables increases every year at this time due to rain. But this time the price is much higher than other times. We ourselves understand that buying vegetables at such a high price is very difficult for consumers. But we have nothing to do. We are not buying vegetables at low prices.

Sultana Akhter, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce came to monitor Banani raw market in the capital and said that they are working to make the market bearable.

The official of the Directorate of Consumer Protection said that the task force will play a strong role in controlling the prices of eggs and chicken markets at the district-upazila level.
