Zoom-Bangla Desk: Although foreign tourists are not seen much in the tourist centers of Bangladesh, the number of domestic tourists is not very low. According to various organizations including tour operators, 70/80 million tourists travel or visit the places of their choice within the country during normal time, the top of which is Cox's Bazar beach.

Tamanna Khayer, a private employee, said that compared to neighboring countries, Bangladesh's tourist centers are less tourist-friendly. But the cost here is very high. For the same cost you can live better than many other countries. Maybe now there are good resort hotels here. But they cost more than other countries.

Tamanna mentions India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Thailand as countries outside the Khay . The reality is that Bangladesh is nowhere near the number of foreign tourists who visit these countries every year.

Even compared to the number of Bangladeshis who visit these countries every year, the rate of foreigners visiting here is very less. Before the coronavirus epidemic, more than 1.6 lakh foreign tourists came from abroad in the financial year 2018-19, but most of them were actually expatriate Bangladeshis. In actual sense, foreign tourists were like two and a half lakhs. But all in all, 80-90 lakh tourists travel to different places throughout the year within the country. Due to this, the number of tour operators working with domestic tourists has also increased.

Jannatul Ferdous has been running an organization called 'Jhatika Safar' for the past three years. According to him, the main reason for overspending in tourism establishments in Bangladesh is syndicate business and overcrowding of tourists at certain times. There are different syndicates in tourism spots. Purnima will go to Sundarbans but the fares of all ships are increased simultaneously. The situation is the same in Howrah. Same goes for Sajek. I could imagine the price that was before. But now they are a syndicate. My three year institution. But tourists are not in Cox's Bazar. Because of the price. So many hotels are so expensive!

In other words, because the tourism spot-based businessmen syndicate among themselves and increase the price of everything, the cost of tourists is constantly increasing. But foreigners are generally not interested in coming here because of the lack of services or entertainment.

But many people think that tourism in Bangladesh is a special season and event-based, which is the main reason for the high prices. As said by Samsad Naureen, a teacher of Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of Dhaka University.

He said, we have many tourists come here in a season. And not in other seasons. That's why traders make more profit during peak season. If there was different tourism here throughout the year then this would not be the case. Tourists go the other way during winter in the western world. We travel more in winter. Similarly, if arrangements were made to attract tourists even in summer or monsoon season, then the anomaly would not have been seen.

And he thinks that this inconsistency has made the country's tourism expensive, i.e. the business policy of withdrawing the whole year's money during a winter season or a few festivals has made the country's tourism expensive. However, General Secretary of Hotel Motel and Resort Owners Association of Cox's Bazar, the biggest tourist city of the country, Salim Newaz is not willing to accept this complaint. He said, tourists are of different categories. Different people have different budgets. Cox's Bazar is not expensive. There are hotels of different prices from five to one thousand. There are also expensive ones. As he wants. Now you can visit India Nepal. Our difference with India is that there is a different type of management.

Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Mohammad Ali Kadar said that they do not think that tourism expenditure is too high in terms of reality, but it seems that in some cases it is due to lack of sufficient infrastructure. Those who do business in this sector calculate the price based on their infrastructure facilities. We have the potential but the infrastructure has not been built that way. That is why some of the units (private) are built so their investment is high and the service charges are high. But it is not very reasonable to say that overall tourism expenditure is high here.

He says that the number of tourists is increasing due to the fact that the government has declared the tourism sector as a priority sector and the number of tourists is increasing due to the increased facilities and security compared to the cost of the tourist spots. Again, as the private sector has come forward, luxury tourism facilities have been created, which the government believes will take the tourism sector a long way.
