Religion Desk: Istegfar is recited to ask for forgiveness or to atone for one's sins. Istegfa means asking for forgiveness. Prophet He used to read istegfar himself, he also ordered the Companions to ask for forgiveness. Through this, Allah Ta'ala forgives sins and increases dignity.

 

Prophet A hadith said, God's oath! I seek forgiveness and repentance from Allah more than seventy times every day.' (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 6307)

In another hadith Abu Hurairah RA. Narrated from, he said, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'By the Great Being, in whose hand is my life! If you do not sin, then Allah will wipe you out and replace you with a people who will sin and ask Allah for forgiveness. And Allah will forgive them. (Muslim, Hadith: 2749)

Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA. Narrated by, He said, The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Whoever keeps asking for forgiveness (reciting Astaghfirullah), Allah gives him a way out of every narrowness or difficulty, frees him from every worry, and He gives him all such Provides sustenance from sources he cannot imagine. (Abu Dawud)


Ibn Masud RA. Narrated from, he said, the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Whoever recites this supplication

I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, and I repent to Him.

Pronunciation: Astaghfirullah-hallazi la ila-ha illa huwal haiyul qayyyumu a atubu ilaih.'

Meaning: I seek forgiveness from Allah besides whom there is no true god. Who is Eternal, Immortal. And I repent to Him.

That person's sins will be forgiven; Even if he flees from the battlefield.' (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1517, Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3577)

Ayesha. Narrated by, he said, the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to recite this supplication a lot before his death.

Glory be to God and praise be to Him. I ask God for forgiveness and repent to Him.

Pronunciation: 'Subhanallahi abihamdihi, Astaghfirullah wa-atubu ilaih.'

Meaning: Praising Allah and proclaiming His holiness. I ask Allah for forgiveness and repent to Him. (Muslim)
