Nirbak has been silent for more than a month. Nurul Islam (61). Although he has been sick for a long time with back pain, he had to go out on the road with a rickshaw due to hunger pangs. He is the father of Nayan (35), a garment worker who was shot dead during the quota reform movement in Dhaka's Lalbagh area.

Nayan was the only earner in Nurul Islam's family of eight, including three sons and daughters, daughter-in-law, and little granddaughter.

At a young age, Nurul Islam was a clay worker and later worked as a bricklayer and carried heavy goods. The son used to run the family by doing these hard work. For the last three years he was bedridden due to old age and his eldest son Nayan took over the family. The son gets married and has a daughter.

But Nayan, who was the only breadwinner in the family, was shot dead during the anti-discrimination student movement. After hearing the news of her husband's death, the young wife is in grief. Not taking any food in the mouth properly. Like her mother, the 2-year-old daughter is grief-stricken. He does not realize that his father has gone to an unknown land, from where he will never return. But regularly no one comes home with chocolate/chips in the evening and cries every day to feel it. A familiar face no longer embraces him and can feel the lack of that affection. His two little eyes are looking for his father.

Nayan lived in Lalbagh area on the banks of Buriganga. Last August 5 at 8 in the morning left the house after assuring the sick father. It was said that the father will be seen by a good doctor very soon, and the daughter will be admitted to the children's class next year. The girl felt cold. After breakfast in the morning, he took leave of his wife saying that he would bring medicine for his daughter. But who knew, this goodbye will be forever goodbye. He came home once in the afternoon, but did not stay at home for long. He was saying with great excitement and joy that now his younger brother will get a job, their lack will disappear.

After the successful mass uprising, the students took out a joyous procession on the paved road in front of Panin Garments adjacent to Beribandh at around 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Nayan also actively participated in the procession. When the procession was near Lalbagh police station, the armed terrorists of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and Sramik League fired indiscriminately at the procession and Nayan fell down on the street when four bullets pierced his left side of the chest. Many others, including Nayan, were shot on the streets. The passerby called his father's mobile from Nayan's mobile and said that Nayan was being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a coma.

He was not admitted to Dhaka Medical College because of the dire situation prevailing in Bangladesh at that time. He was left untreated all night. The next morning on August 6, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical and the doctor on duty removed four bullets from Nayan's chest. Nayan was shifted to Supermax Hospital at 27 Dhanmondi on August 9 at 8:10 am when his physical condition deteriorated. At 10 am that day, he was taken to the ICU when his condition worsened. Nayan was declared dead by the doctor on duty in the ICU around 5:30 pm. After completing the necessary work, Nayan was taken to the village house and buried.

Even after two months of his death, no inquiry has been taken from the government and no donation has been received. Nurul Islam earns a living by driving a rickshaw with a sick body due to poverty. The entire family is saddened by Nayan's sudden death.

It is to be noted that a murder case was registered at Lalbagh Police Station with the help of local residents on October 10. Lalbagh Police Station OC (Investigation) Ahsan Ullah confirmed the case and said, "We are making inquiries about the accused and conducting arrest operations." He hoped to bring them under the law soon.
