Jumbangla Desk: The interim government is working to identify market syndicates to prevent the increase in the prices of daily necessities, said Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
He said this at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Hare Road in the capital this evening.
Azad Majumdar said, 'Efforts are underway to identify and break the syndicate. We ask for your cooperation. If you have any information about syndicates, who are raising prices and monopolizing, please let us know. The government will definitely take action in this regard.'
Mentioning that there is concern among the common people about the increase in the prices of daily necessities, Azad said that the government has already taken some steps to keep the prices of the products within the reach of the common people.
He mentioned that the price of eggs is currently on the rise. Therefore, the duty on import of eggs has been reduced from 33 percent to 13 percent.
He also informed that it has been decided to reduce import duty of edible oil by five percent and withdraw value added tax (VAT).
Azad said the government is starting sale of agricultural produce including potatoes, onions and vegetables at affordable prices under the Open Market Sale (OMS) program in various areas.
At present, products are being sold at 20 locations, but the number of sales centers will be increased, he said. Finance and trade advisor. Salehuddin Ahmed officially inaugurated this agricultural product sale program at Abdul Gani Road in the capital today.
Initially, the government has started selling 10 products through trucks at 20 locations. The sales centers include, Food Building, Manik Mia Avenue, Mirpur-10, Basabo, Bosila, Rayerbazar, Rajarbagh, Mugda North, Mugda Dakshin, Palashi Mor, Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur, Gabtali, Mohakhali Bus Stand, Begunbari, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan, Kamrangirchar, Rampura and Jigatala.
Under this program, potatoes are being sold at Tk 30 per kg, eggs at Tk 130 per dozen, onions at Tk 70 per kg and green vegetables in different packages.
