A blockade has been going on at Shahbag intersection of the capital since morning demanding the permanent employment of the officers and employees working as outsourcing in government and autonomous institutions. In the afternoon, a five-member delegation of outsourced officials reportedly went to Yamuna, his residence, to meet the Chief Adviser.
Earlier, the outsourcing employees-officials blocked Shahbag intersection from 10 am on Saturday. At that time, they kept chanting slogans like 'Abolish the black law, activate Bangladesh, 'Abolish the practice of outsourcing of government institutions, make everyone's job permanent', 'We are in Sonar Bangla, there is no place for discrimination'.
Then at 3:30 pm, a delegation of five members led by Anisur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Outsourcing Officers-Employee Welfare Association, went to the residence of the Chief Advisor through the mediation of the law and order forces.
Outsourcing employee of BIWTA. Hasnain said, 'Kill us, or accept the demand. I have not been getting any salary for the last six months even though I have worked equally as a revenue employee. We are the victims of discrimination even though we are equal in terms of qualifications, skills and hard work. Salary, allowances, holidays of my revenue colleague are fine. And there is no guarantee of how my family will fare.'
He said that the salary scale of the employees working in outsourcing is fixed like that of the revenue employees but they are not paid on time. A part of the salary is taken by the contractors as commission. Besides, there is no guarantee of their job. If it is not made permanent, they fear that they may have to lose their jobs at any time. They consider permanent employment as the only way to solve these problems.
