Own Correspondent, Gazipur: Illegal gas connection has taken place on the east side of Mulaid village (MC Bazar) of Telihati union of Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Locals alleged that local Liton traders are giving these illegal connections in exchange of huge amount of money. Locals fear explosion or fire whenever gas pressure increases due to faulty connections .
Illegal gas connection in Sreepur, fear of explosion of faulty line
On the surface, going to the eastern side of Mulaid village (MC Bazar) of Telihati union of the upazila, it can be seen that the work of connecting illegal new gas lines is continuing in about a hundred houses. Liton dealers are collecting Tk 50,000 to Tk 100,000 from those who accept illegal connections, depending on the type of work.
It is alleged that local influential Liton traders are giving these illegal connections through big risers in exchange of huge amount of money. Residents complain that house owners are also getting illegal gas connection with money. Some dishonest officials and employees of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company authorities are also involved in these illegal gas connections. Illegal gas connections are being dug up on the east side of MC Bazar in the darkness of night for the last two months.
Liton called the dealer several times on his mobile phone regarding the allegations, but he did not respond.
Shahjahan Mia, manager of Titus Gas in Baluka, Mymensingh, said, 'Many journalists in Sripur told me about the illegal gas connection over the phone. Some people from our office visited the spot and found the fact of illegal gas connection. I could not conduct the operation due to the lack of police for the puja. Puja has just finished. All illegal connections will be disconnected by carrying out an operation with the cooperation of the police as soon as possible.
