Jumbangla Desk: One thousand 290 kg government rice stolen from the locked room of Jalsukha Union Parishad (UP) in Ajmiriganj Upazila of Habiganj has been recovered.

UP Chairman Faiz Ahmed Khelu claimed that 43 sacks of rice were found in the open space behind the council on Monday (October 28) morning.

Earlier on Sunday night, he gave the information about the disappearance of this rice. After the case process started in this regard, the chairman informed about the recovery of that rice.

According to him, a few days ago, 434 sacks of rice weighing 30 kg of the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) program were brought to a council room and kept locked for distribution among 434 distressed women. On Sunday, 43 sacks i.e. 1,290 kg of rice were found less.

Meanwhile, the back door of the room is always fixed towards the inside, but on Sunday it was seen to be fixed from the outside.

Later some rice was seen scattered on the road behind the council. That is why the people concerned think that the rice has been stolen through the back door.

UP member Sheikh Junaid Ahmed said that the key of the room is with the in-charge Dafadar Arun Acharya. He will be spoken to in this regard.

The chairman said that the thieves broke the window and took out the rice from the warehouse of the council and kept it behind the council. Maybe they had planned to take the rice at night.

Upazila Women's Affairs Officer Rumana Akhter said that the chairman had given information about rice theft the previous day. Then I prepare the case. Later in the morning he said the rice was recovered.

Ajmiriganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jewel Bhowmik also said the same. He said that the chairman said that all the bags of rice are now in the council. An investigation will also be conducted on who is involved in the disappearance of rice the previous day.
