A principal has been accused of harassing two students of Rajshahi University (Rabi) by using Chhatra League tags. On November 4, the administration ordered the students to leave the hall by pulling a notice with the name of a student on the hall notice board. Another student was reportedly threatened on a mobile phone.
That teacher is Sherebangla Hall Principal Mohammad Shariful Islam. Those two students are Raju Ahmed and Nazmus Saqib, Masters students of the University's Department of Economics.
The notice states that since the Bangladesh Chhatra League is a banned organization, in view of the fact that the BCH is in the list published on November 6, 2022, the residence of the students who are currently staying at Fazlul Haque Hall in Sher-e-Bangla and who are initially registered for the new residence will not be canceled in writing within the next 10 days. The office has been asked to inform.
However, the two students claim that they are being harassed only because of their name. They said that they informed the hall principal about this but he still kept the notice.
In this regard, Raju Ahmed said, after seeing this notice, he kept the notice even after going to the principal and clearing everything. There are 3 other students named Raju, but I don't know why my name came in the notice. Told the principal it was a mistake; But when asked to remove the notice, he said - 'If you are not a member of the Chhatra League, then what is the problem with the notice?' I am a master's student, the students of the department are calling me and asking me when I went to SB (student league) again.
Another student Najmus Saqib said, I was in a meeting of the district association on 26th Silsila. Then the provost of the hall called me and said - 'Are you saying Nazmus Shakib? Then I was saying, yes sir, I am Nazmus Saqib. Sir said to me, do you have Mahbub, Farid and Saikat in your room? Then I was saying, yes sir, they stay. Later he told me that you are the vice-president of Chhatra League of Sherebangla Hall. You know Chhatra League has been banned. You can't stay. Then immediately I said to Sir - Sir you are making a mistake. I was never associated with their politics. Maybe your information is wrong. When I contacted sir the next day, he told me that a boy in material science was named after you. So we have an informational error. Later I said, Why is the common student being harassed with the BCL tag? He avoided answering.
Regarding the complaint, Sherebangla Hall Principal Mohammad Shariful Islam said that this notice was given to the students of the hall in view of the complaint and as it matches the name of the latest committee list of BCL. They have been asked to give in writing within 10 days. After that, the administration will investigate. If they are not involved, their names will be omitted. However, he denied sending the notice to the department.
