Speakers in a discussion meeting in Mymensingh have opined that conscious participation of the country's youth in politics is necessary to ensure civic services. Also, they emphasized on ensuring transparency and public involvement in every sector for the sustainable development of the country.
Recently, the speakers said these things at the discussion meeting titled 'Citizen Aspirations' at the District Art Academy in Mymensingh. The discussion meeting was held under the 'I Want to Win' campaign organized by Democracy International with funding from USAID.
In the meeting, the executive director of the non-governmental organization Shantimitra, Mymensingh, Subarna Poli Drang said that people and political parties should come forward along with the administration to ensure safe citizen services. We want the right to justice, the right of citizens to vote safely, the right to access justice, the right to access government services.
Mymensingh Transparency International youth leader Sadad Md. Sayem said, transparency and accountability should be ensured by reducing the violence of brokers in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and Land Office to ensure service to the citizens.
At this time, Khairul Alam Tuhin, a representative of non-governmental organization Anyachitra, shed light on transparency and accountability as well as public involvement and youth participation in politics to ensure sustainable infrastructural development.
Katha Akhter, a member of the Self-reliant Development Association, said, Bangladesh wants to be seen as a non-sectarian Bangladesh where people of all religions can perform their religious ceremonies peacefully. Tribals, backward communities and even people of all genders can live in this country with due dignity.
Under the USAID's Strengthening Political Landscape (SPL) project, Democracy International is conducting various programs including discussions, drama shows, debate competitions in various universities and districts across the country to highlight civic expectations through the 'I want to win' campaign. Also, under the campaign, citizens' demands and opinions are being accepted through the amiojittechai.com website.
Apart from discussion sessions, interactive theater 'Neta Kaaywan', quiz and video message competition and exhibition of campaign reels were held on the occasion. During this, the participants expressed their views on the solution of various contemporary issues. The guests gave the prizes to the winners of the competition.
Mymensingh Multiparty Advocacy Forum Office Secretary Faria Tasnim Thithi gave a welcome speech on the occasion and General Secretary of the Forum Jamal Uddin Ahmed. Nargis Akhtar, Senior Regional Manager of Democracy International, Mymensingh Division gave the concluding speech of the program.
