Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based media outlet, reported that tension had been rising since the presence of Israeli fans in Amsterdam around this match. Supporters of the Israeli club held a rally in the center of Amsterdam just before the clash. They waved the Israeli flag in the march and lowered a Palestinian flag standing by.
Before the clash, however, the Dutch police warned the fans of the Israeli club about disorderly behavior. At that time, they posted on social media about taking down the Palestinian flag from a building and said that they were cautious.
After the clashes, Israel's foreign ministry said 10 Israelis were injured and two were 'missing'.
Ori Goldberg, an Israeli political commentator, told Al Jazeera, "The fact that Israeli supporters are rioting in the center of Amsterdam, singing racist songs, breaking into people's homes and lowering the Palestinian flag actually points to the current state of Israel." They have no idea what the results of these actions will be.'
Incidentally, the Dutch giant Ajax defeated the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv 5-0 at home in the Europa League league match.
