Among the injured, Saiful Islam (28) and Liton Ali (35) have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital as their condition is serious. It is reported that the injured Khoka, Chand Ali, Ujjal, Shamchul and Rakib were treated at Upazila Health Complex and local clinic.

The clash took place at Jamtoli Nicha Bazar around 7 pm on Thursday.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place between UP member and BNP leader Jahangir Hossain of Pakuria village of the upazila and the workers-supporters of Abul Kalam Azad, a former farmer's party leader of neighboring Terbaria village.


Meanwhile, Pakuria and Terbaria villagers continued to gather with native Hansua and lathisota by announcing on the microphone of the mosque on Friday morning till the last news. There is extreme tension between the two sides in the area. On receiving the news, the police and Bangladesh army members forced both parties to leave the scene by hand miking.

Jahangir Hossain, Ward No. 1 member of Italian Union and BNP leader, said that two people named Alif and Bhutru Mia from neighboring Terbaria village were beaten up by the people when they came to rob a Hindu house in Pakuria village on the night of August 5. Since then, the opponent Abul Kalam Azad of Terbaria village and his men have been attacking and beating the innocent people of his village on sight. Now a person named Shahadat Haji was beaten up in Jamtali market. While protesting against this, two people including his brother Saiful Islam were hacked with sharp weapons.

Abul Kalam Azad, general secretary of the former upazila farmers' party, said that the incident took place at the local market. However, he claimed that his people had been attacked and beaten before.

Upazila BNP Joint Convener Shamim Hossain said, BNP has warned the local leaders not to get involved in any kind of conflict. All problems will be solved quickly.

Singra police station OC Asmaul Haque said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. At present the situation is calm. Action will be taken if complaints are received.
