The blast took place on Saturday (November 9) at around 9:30 am when the Peshawar-bound express departed from Quetta railway station. This was confirmed by a senior police officer, Muhammad Baloch. Reuters news.

Pakistan is currently grappling with terrorist attacks in the country's northwest and a growing separatist insurgency in the south.

Superintendent of Police Operations Muhammad Baloch said, "A Peshawar-bound train was leaving for its destination when the explosion occurred inside the railway station."


No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast, he said.

Muhammad Baloch said the blast appeared to be a suicide blast. However, further investigation is underway, he said.

Giving details about the death toll, SSP Operations Baloch said the death toll in the blast stood at 21 and 30 injured.

The Zafar Express was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9 am, railway officials said. That's when the accident happened.

Officials told Geo News that several of the injured are in critical condition. As a result, the number of dead in the explosion may increase.
