Shajahan Khan's RG not to wear handcuffs, opposed by PP

Former Shipping Minister and Member of Parliament Shajahan Khan, former Member of Parliament and President of Bangladesh Workers Party Rashed Khan Menon and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun have been arrested in the new case.

Former Shipping Minister and Member of Parliament Shajahan Khan, former Member of Parliament and President of Bangladesh Workers Party Rashed Khan Menon and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun have been arrested in the new case.

They were arrested on Monday in the case of the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim at Paltan police station in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan ordered them to be arrested in this case.

Others who have been arrested are former member of parliament Abdus Sobhan Golap, Awami League organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain, former vice chairman of Nachol upazila Rezaul Karim and Awami League activist Kabir Hossain Mithu.

In the morning, seven people were produced in the court from the jail. The investigating officer of the case, SI Tanmoy Kumar Biswas of Paltan police station requested to arrest everyone. At the end of the hearing, the court showed everyone under arrest. Later they were taken back to prison.


Shajahan Khan spoke with the permission of the court during the hearing on the show cause notice application. He said, 6 freedom fighters in the family including my father, grandfather. My father was a three-time MP. I was an eight-time MP. I have also served as a minister. Bangabandhu murder case and criminals against humanity were not handcuffed. So that I am not handcuffed.

PP Omar Farooq Farooqui of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court opposed Shajahan Khan's RG and said, "We have seen many ministers and MPs being carried up stairs to the seventh and eighth floors wearing batons. They did it to stay in power. It's one thing if you are in power and another thing when you are out of power. Handcuffs and helmets are worn for safety. The judge did not order handcuffs later.
