Three franchises from last season let go of their captains ahead of the IPL mega auction. As a result, it was supposed to try to fill the gap at the beginning of the auction. Rishabh Pant, Shreyash Iyer and Lokesh Rahul were among the marquee cricketers. With whom the auction started, then after a lot of rummaging, Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for the highest price of 27 crore rupees in history.

Rishabh Pant

But the franchise did not allocate so much for him. While there were pre-plans to get Pant in the team, the budget was even lower. But all in all they are satisfied with this Indian wicketkeeper batsman. Rahul, who led the previous season, was released earlier by Lucknow. Delhi Capitals bought this right-handed batsman for Rs 14 crore.

First from the list of marquee cricketers, Punjab Kings bought Shreyash Iyer for 26.75 crores. Which is the second highest price in IPL history. Earlier in 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for 12.25 crores. That is, the value of Shreyas has increased more than twice than before. On the other hand, Pant made history after leaving him behind. This left-hander, who played for Rs 16 crore in Delhi, is now priced at Rs 27 crore.

Later Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka explained that Pant was bought at a higher price. He said, 'We had already planned to take Pant in the team. We allocated 26 crores for him. 27 crore is a bit more. But for a cricketer like him, it is possible to spend extra. He is a great cricketer. Match winner.'

Lucknow bought 7 cricketers on the first day of the auction. Among them are star foreigners like David Miller, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Apart from this, four Indian cricketers including Pant. The rest are – Avesh Khan, Abdul Samad and Arian Jewell. All in all, their auction has been good so far. Earlier, Lucknow kept hold of Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan under the retention rule.

Lucknow co-owner (Sanjeev's son) Shaswat Goenka says about their auctioned cricketers, 'It doesn't matter how much you plan to spend, planning doesn't always go the right way. Our plan (to buy Pant) was good. This (Rs 27 crore) is not a magic number, we only want one number (to spend), so that RTM does not create trouble.'

However, RTM is also responsible for the high price of pant. With this rule, Delhi had a chance to pick him up again. However, by jumping from 20 crores to 27 crores, Lucknow owner snatched Pant. RTM also had the opportunity to take their former captain Rahul in front of the franchise. But this time, Lucknow did not show interest in the Indian batter. Rahul had a public dispute with Sanjeev Goenka in the last event. With which the owner of Lucknow came under fire.
