Onion import through Dinajpur's Hili land port was stopped for the last three days due to the closure of slot bookings in India. And for this reason, the Indian businessmen stopped the export of all types of goods from 12 noon on Tuesday.

5 trucks loaded with onions entered at 11:30 am on Badhubar (November 27) to start slot booking. Through this, import-export activities have started again through Hili land port. However, although onions are imported, the import of potatoes is stopped.

Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, president of Hili landport import-export group, confirmed the matter.

He said that the Indian businessmen could not export onions and potatoes due to the closure of slot bookings from India. By doing this they suffer a lot of losses. Due to which they stopped exporting all products. After the problem was solved at night, import of onion started again from Wednesday morning. However, potatoes have not been imported yet. He also said that after overcoming all the problems, all kinds of products will be imported from India.

It should be noted that the price of rice, onion and potato has increased due to the ban on imports from India. The prices of Jirashail and Sampakatari rice have increased in a span of three days. Jirashail increased by Tk 2 to Tk 70 per kg and compakatory by Tk 2 increased from Tk 68 to Tk 70 per kg. Indian onion and potato prices have also increased. Onion has increased by 5 rupees to 80 rupees per kg and Indian potato has increased by 12 rupees to 75 rupees per kg.

According to Hili Customs information, this week 2020 metric tons of rice in 55 trucks, 4 thousand 700 metric tons of potatoes in 166 trucks and 1 thousand 300 metric tons of onions in 45 trucks were imported from India through Hili land port.
