Science & Technology Desk: WhatsApp is soon going to launch a new transcription feature, which will make the communication of users easier and more convenient by creating a textual version of the voice messages. The feature will roll out globally in the next few weeks for Android and iOS users.
It will automatically generate text below the voice clip, which is especially useful in situations where there is no opportunity to listen to the voice message. This feature balances the pros and cons of voice messages. While recording voice messages is easy, listening to them during busy times or in noisy environments can be inconvenient. However, if the transcription feature is turned on, only the recipient will be able to see this text.
The chicken before the egg? Scientists resolved the controversy
WhatsApp said the transcription will be created on the device itself, so that privacy is intact. It will be turned off by default and can be turned on from the “Voice Message Transcription” option in Settings. Initially English, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Hindi languages will be supported for Android users, with a more extensive language list for iOS. There are also plans to expand language support in the future.
