Immediately after Donald Trump was elected US president, the war in Ukraine became one of the writings. However, the outgoing President Joe Biden, as a last resort, allowed the use of US weapons and financial aid to Ukraine. Russia did not stop at that. Russian troops continue to attack Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has made new proposals regarding the Ukraine war. And accepting that, the president of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, has started thinking about a ceasefire. He gave an interview to Stuart Ramsey, the top reporter of Sky News of the United Kingdom, regarding this first ceasefire.
Earlier, the Trump administration had proposed to Zelensky that Ukraine would be granted membership in the US-led NATO alliance if it relinquished control of the territories occupied by Russian forces during the nearly three-year war.
Zelensky is now considering accepting that offer. "If we want to end the violence and devastation of this war and ensure the security of the areas of Ukraine that are still under our control, we need to go to NATO," he said.
He also said, 'We want to go under the umbrella of NATO first. Then we want to advance diplomatically to recover the occupied territories of Ukraine. I think it is possible. However, we cannot recognize the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia as Russian territory. It is impossible and against the constitution of Ukraine.'
Meanwhile, in the last three years of war, the Russian forces have occupied these four provinces of Ukraine - Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson. Moscow also recognized four provinces as Russian territory in September 2022. On the other hand, NATO has made it clear to Ukraine that it is not possible to give Ukraine membership until the end of the war.
